At the conclusion of this educational activity, the participant should be able to:
- Recognize obesity as a disease, requiring a concerted therapeutic focus.
- Analyze all three major treatment modalities (lifestyle, medication, surgical) and recognize that they can be intensified to achieve greater degrees of weight loss.
- Evaluate risk stratification and patient selection for various treatment options to optimize benefit/risk ratio and patient outcomes.
- Describe the benefits and limitations of recently approved medical therapies for obesity.
- Provide accurate and appropriate counsel as part of the treatment team.
- Provide appropriate care and counsel for patients and their families.
