CONFERENCE DESCRIPTION Our 25th Annual Spring Conference on Pediatrics is designed to provide healthcare professionals involved in the care of pediatric patients with up-to-date and evidence-based clinical data. The primary goal of this conference is to increase knowledge and enhance the competence of attendees. Emphasis will be placed on practical application of the evidence-based topics presented. Topics for this year’s conference have been selected based on the educational needs determined from the identified professional practice gaps. The gaps were derived from a variety of sources including evaluations and outcomes data from past participants; clinical expert input; Symposia Medicus’ online survey; and other medical and nursing data. Conference format will include didactic lectures, smaller group breakout and interactive sessions, and question and answer sessions. An outstanding faculty has been assembled for this
conference. Each member was selected based on their individual area of
expertise and ability to communicate current, evidence-based and
practical information to participants. CONFERENCE OBJECTIVES As a result of participating in this conference, you should have increased knowledge and enhanced competence to… • Diagnose and treat pediatric knee and ankle injuries • Manage common neurologic disorders seen in the pediatric office • Determine the underlying causes of pediatric allergies • Recognize the presenting signs and symptoms of pediatric abdominal emergencies • Evaluate therapeutic options for the treatment This educational activity was planned and produced in accordance with the ACCME and ANCC Essentials and Standards relating to continuing medical and nursing education. Symposia Medicus is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Symposia Medicus is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. Each participant should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Certificates of credit will be given to participants on-site at the conclusion of the conference. |
CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDIT Physicians This continuing medical education activity has been reviewed by the American Academy of Pediatrics and is acceptable for a maximum of 18 AAP credits. These credits can be applied toward the AAP CME/CPD Award available to Fellows and Candidate Members of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Application for CME credit has been filed with the American Academy of Family Physicians. Determination of credit is pending. Physician Assistants Nurse Practitioners/Nurses Provider is also approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider #CEP2335, for Pharmacology Credit for Prescriptive Authority Smaller group sessions will be held Friday afternoon. These breakout sessions are organized to provide an opportunity for greater participant/faculty interaction, and will give you an opportunity to participate in discussions on subjects relating to your particular area of interest. Please indicate your breakout session topic choice on the conference registration form in this brochure. Space is limited so please reserve early. EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES Each registrant will receive an extensive conference syllabus that includes materials on each topic presented. The full color digital syllabus will be available for download approximately two weeks prior to the conference (you’ll receive an email with instructions). If you wish to receive a paper syllabus (black and white type & photos), please check the box on the registration form in this brochure. If you bring your tablet/laptop to the conference, be aware that there are no electrical outlets at the conference tables. Make sure your tablet/laptop is fully charged each day. If you are unable to attend this conference, extra
copies of this syllabus (either paper or digital copy) will be available
one week after the conference. The cost is $60 for a paper syllabus and

CONFERENCE LODGING INFORMATION Group Rateshave been arranged at the Westin Maui Resort & Spa. These rates will also be available three days before and three days after the conference, based on availability, if you wish to extend your stay. Two nights’ deposit (room rate only) must accompany your reservation. The balance of your lodging, hotel fees as stated below, and all incidental charges are due to the hotel. The hotel accepts most major credit cards. Please note that our block of rooms is limited and on a first come, first served basis. TERMS & CONDITIONS Hotel Policies • Group rates stated do not include 13.416% state and local taxes per room, per night, nor gratuities (subject to change) • Maximum room occupancy is four (regardless of age), except for Premium Deluxe Ocean View, • Mandatory additional person charges (see below) include daily buffet breakfast, taxes and gratuities: • Check-in time is 3:00pm and check-out time is noon. A late check-out may only be confirmed on the date of departure by the front office and additional charges may apply for late check-outs (based upon availability). • Early Departure Fee: Please notify the hotel at check-in if there are any changes to your scheduled departure as an early departure fee equal to one night’s room rate may be charged to any guest who checks out of the hotel before their stated reserved departure date if notice at check-in is not given. • Parking – Self-parking is complimentary for registered hotel guests only. Valet parking is available at a discounted rate of $15/day Cancellation Policies • Conference cancellations must be confirmed in writing and a 10% of paid tuition processing fee will be assessed. No refunds will be made if cancellation is postmarked after February 19, 2014; however, tuition, less 10% processing fee may be applied to a future Symposia Medicus conference. • Per our hotel contract, hotel reservation cancellations must be made in writing to Symposia Medicus and you will receive a full refund if postmarked by January 22, 2014. Between January 23, 2014 and February 19, 2014, one night’s deposit is forfeited. After February 19, 2014, no hotel refunds can be made. • All cancellations must be made in writing to Symposia Medicus (via email, fax or mail) and postmarked by the dates stated above. • In the unlikely event of conference cancellation by Symposia Medicus, full tuition and, if reservation was made with Symposia Medicus, hotel deposit refunds will be made. Symposia Medicus will not be responsible for refunding travel or any other expenses. AIR TRAVEL INFORMATION You will be flying into Kahului Airport, which is approximately 27 miles from the Westin Maui Resort & Spa. Information on ground transportation will be sent to registrants and available online at our website. Symposia Medicus has arranged for discount fares with Alaska, American, Delta, Hawaiian, and United airlines for this conference. Reservations can be made either through your travel agency or through the airlines at the website or Convention Desk numbers listed below.
